Mark York

Graduate Student

Mark is a second-year PhD student in Computer Science advised by Dr. Dahleh. Mark’s research encompasses machine learning and algorithmic game theory to design better markets for information, credit, and agricultural inputs. Mark is leveraging local knowledge of which borrowers are credit worthy by designing incentives for farmers, lenders, and expert recommenders to cooperate with the system. This is then combined with machine learning to predict which borrowers and recommenders are likely to cooperate. Previously Mark was a consultant at McKinsey focusing in Food and Agriculture, and before that he was a commodity market forecaster with Cargill. He is also the Co-founder and President of Tractors for Africa. Mark grew up on a farm in Lake Wilson, Minnesota, and studied Agronomy and Mathematics at South Dakota State University.
